Dance: More than an art

By Nandini Vishnu - 9th Count Dance Academy

"Art is what makes us humans. The love for dance and music is there in every individual. All of us must have danced at least once in our life, but for some it becomes life. The passion for dance in me was what led me to start “Nandini’s The 9th Count Dance Academy.”

Smt.Sri Nandini is a renowned guru in the Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam. Having started at the young age of 6, she trained under Nritya Kalakesari Pandanallur P.Ganapathiappa for over two decades. She had done her Masters in Business Administration from Anna University and had been working for MNCs in Chennai, India for more than 5 years. She taught Bharatanatyam for a couple of years in New York before her passion for dance led her to create Nandini’s The 9th Count Dance Academy when she returned to India.

"My stay in New York for 3 years was an eye opener. I found myself dancing or teaching dance at every little opportunity I got.My passion for dance was never satisfied until I started “Nandini’s The 9th Count Dance Academy” in Bengaluru in 2012 when I returned to India. In a span of one year the academy also has its presence in my home town Coimbatore."

She has recently received the "NRITYA KALAIMANI" and " KUBERA NATIYA SELVAM " awards at the Natyanjali dance festival in Tamil Nadu, India.

Awarded the title - " CHIDAMBARESA NATIYA KALAIMANI " at the Guinness World Record event and set a record of 7400 dancers dancing at one place for the longest duration of 16 minutes at the Thillai Natrajar Temple, Chidambaram. Even Lt general Dr.Kiran Bedi talks about her team's performance at the festival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIwgjXv5Eeg

She now has over 200 students in Banglore, Chennai and her town Coimbatore, within a short span of 6 years. She along with her disciples have performed in prestigious national and international dance festivals like Thanjavur Brahadeeswarar temple, Kapaleeswarar temple Chennai, Salangai Oli dance festival at NaradhaGana Sabha , Chennai 2017, Natiyanjali Dance festivals and more!

"I wanted to provide a space for anyone who wants to dance. Passion in an individual is the only criteria to join my dance academy.

Now I have ladies who have joined my classes and I glad I am getting to achieve the purpose of starting the academy. I find women taking time for everything else but for themselves. I am now satisfied that I am being able to give something to them, to help them learn Bharathanatyam which they have missed earlier for various reasons, be it their final exams, or marriage or work or family. I now  enjoy every moment I spend with my students, helping to kindle the passion for art and dance in today’s generation.

The key to having a successful business is PASSION. Never stop believing in yourself and in your dreams.  Ladies, our biggest accomplishment in life is to work hard with passion to get our dreams.
Dream big.. Work hard.. And keep dancing!"
